Show submenu when mouse enters main menu item Posted: Jan 05, 2010

Is it possible to show submenu programmatically or by some settings when mouse hovers main menu item?

I try to use the following code but it doesn't work:

    public partial class MainMenuControl2 : UserControl

    {

        public MainMenuControl2()

        {

            InitializeComponent();

            foreach (var mi in menu.Items)

            {

                mi.MouseEnter += MainMenuItem_MouseEnter;

            }

        }

        private void MainMenuItem_MouseEnter(object sender, System.Windows.Input.MouseEventArgs e)

        {

            var a = (Menu)((MenuItem)sender).Content;

            if (a!=null)

                a.Show();

        }

    }

Hi,

I'm not quite sure of the problem here.  By default the child menu will show when you hover over its parent menu item.  Could you provide more information of how to create the problem or better still if you could email a project showing the problem to support@vectorlight.net that would be great.

Thanks!

Dan,

I think what the OP is referring to is when you hover over the "MainMenuItem"... nothing happens. You have to click to get the drop down menu to appear.

Is there anyway to have this bind to MouseEnter so that it just appears without the user having to click?

Thanks so much.

Hi,

Thanks for the clarification.  Consider this done, in the next version there will be a new property named ShowChildMenuOnHover which when enabled will do exactly what you want.  Expect the next version in the next few days.

Thanks!

Dan,

I'd like to request that the menu hides Child menus after mouse moves off the parent menu.

When the menu drops down, the only way to get rid of it is to click one of the menu items.  A timeout value and automatic hide would be great!!
