Color selector bugs? Posted: Feb 11, 2010

I've been using the Color Selector control for a few days now and I've found two annoying bugs with it when used with the More Colors custom button.

The first is that when I first start the sample project in Visual Studio for Custom Colors downloaded directly off this site, the first color that I select almost always fails to update the selected color in the color selector and also does not update the background of the window. The color only changes usually on the second time I select a color from the color selector.

The other bug is that if you do select a custom color, the bottom row of custom colors gets updated, no problems there. But if you select colors from the bottom row the selected color in the color selector control doesn't change to the color you've selected.

Hi,

Thanks for your post.  The first issue you mention I cannot re-create, for example I loaded the ColorSelectorCustomButton sample project unmodified from the site and run it.  I am able to select a custom color first time and the color selector and background does update to my selected color.  This I have tried several times and it works fine.

Your second issue is a bug which will be fixed in the next version.

Thanks!

Thanks for the quick reply.

Just to clarify, the first bug with the color selector occurs when I select one of the predefined colors not from the custom colors window. I have also tried this on another computer running the latest Silverlight 3 runtime and get the same results.

I've got the latest Silverlight Tools from Microsoft with Visual Studio 2008 SP1.

Dan,

I am experiencing the same strage occurence where the user has to select the color twice in order for it "take".

That's great!

Dan,

I am re-posting this question from another thread...  I could really use some help...

I am working with your Color Selector control and Custom Colors which is a very nice implementation!

However, I have a challenge which I am unsure how to handle:

How do I detect whether a particular color already exists in the Pallette?  For instance: #FF5E60B8 which was selected from the CustomColors functionality...  I don't want to add the color to the CustomColors if it already exists in the standard pallette...  I want to just select that color using the "SELECTED" property...

Is it possible to get access to the Colors collection?

Thanks in advance!

Ron

Hi Ron,

In version 5.2.7 the Color Selector has a new DoesColorExist() method that will determine the presence of a Color in the standard palette.

Thanks!

Dan,

Nice work!  Thank for doing this so quickly!!!

Another question which I posted the other day..  I am struggling with representing "TRANSPARENT" as a color in the palette..

I have included the code I am using, but it defaults to WHITE" in the palette..  Is there a way to differentiate "Transparent from White in the Color Selector palette?

System.Windows.Media.Color.FromArgb(255,255,255,255)

Thanks in advance!

Ron

Hi Ron,

Unfortunately not in the current version, Transparent will render as White.  I'll see if we can make the colour visual configurable for individual color cells in the next version.

Thanks!
