Related Links

The Related Links module generates a list of links of CMS pages that have share the same metadata as the current page.  The relation is determined by metadata categories that have been applied to a page using the metadata tab of the Page Properties dialog.

Metadata Manager Configuration

To get started you must first ensure you have the Related Links metadata type setup using the Metadata Manager from the Tools menu.  Note, this is an admin task and your user account must be in the admin role.

Related Links Metadata Manager configuration

As you can see we have created a new Metadata type and called it Related Links and we have added one field named Categories which is of type Category.

Creating the Category Tree

With the metadata type setup complete its time to create your category tree.  A category tree is simple a list of pages, each page is one subject.  Here is our example tree, created under the Categories page in the System Pages section of the website treeview.

Related Links category tree

Here we have our four categories that we will tag our pages as belonging to.

Creating the Test Content Pages

Next we will create some test content pages to categorize.

Related Links content pages

Here we create three pages under Section 1 of our website.  For Page 1 we want to tag as belonging to the Car category, to do this we apply metadata to the page using the Metadata tab of the Properties dialog.

Related Links metadata

Click OK and save the page when complete.  We do this for the other two pages and assign a category to those as well.  For example, Page 2 we tag as Car, Animal and Page 3 we tag as Animal and Zoo.

Inserting the Related Links Module

What we do next is to insert the Related Links module onto Page 1, as already mentioned the Related Links module renders out lists of pages with related metedata categories.  Here we will insert the module onto Page 1.

Related Links module configuration

First we must select the metadata name to associate with, this will be the Metadata group created earlier in the Metadata Manager admin.  When the module has been inserted save and approve all your newly created pages.
